Install in three steps

How to install the Excel add-in

You'll download a small manifest file from Nexell and add it to Excel with “Upload My Add-in”. These steps apply once the add-in is released.

  1. 1

    Download the manifest

Download it from the Excel add-in section of your Nexell account. The section appears when the add-in is ready.

  2. 2

    Upload it to Excel

In Excel, go to Home › Add-ins, choose Upload My Add-in and pick the file. Steps per version are below.

  3. 3

Open the panel and sign in

Select Nexell on the Home tab, sign in with your Nexell account and type your first request.

Step 2 in detail

Uploading by Excel version

Button names follow Microsoft's documentation and may change slightly as Excel is updated.

Excel for the web

Personal Microsoft account, or work or school account

  1. Open a workbook in Excel for the web.
  2. Select Home › Add-ins, then More Settings.
  3. In the Office Add-ins dialog, select Upload My Add-in.
  4. Browse to the manifest file and select Upload.

The upload is kept in your browser: after clearing its cache or switching browsers, upload the file again.

Microsoft 365 Excel on Windows

Desktop Excel with a Microsoft 365 subscription

  1. Select Home › Add-ins, then More Add-ins.
  2. In the Office Add-ins dialog, open the My Add-ins tab.
  3. Select Manage My Add-in, then Upload, and pick the manifest file.

Option missing? See troubleshooting below.

Excel on Mac

Microsoft 365 Excel for Mac

  1. In Finder, press Cmd+Shift+G and open ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Documents/wef (create it if missing).
  2. Copy the manifest file into this folder.
  3. Restart Excel and choose Nexell from the Home › Add-ins menu.

This is the route Microsoft documents for Mac; with a work account, central deployment is easier.

For organizations

Deploy the Excel add-in to every employee

A Microsoft 365 admin can install the add-in for everyone or for selected groups; employees don't upload anything.

  1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, open Settings › Integrated apps.
  2. Select Upload custom apps and choose Office Add-in as the App type.
  3. Upload the manifest with Choose File and select Next.
  4. Under Add users, choose Entire organization, Specific users/groups or Just me.
  5. Review the permissions and select Finish deployment.
  • Who it's for: work and school plans with Exchange Online (such as Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard or Premium). Not for personal Microsoft accounts.
  • When it appears: Microsoft says it can take up to 72 hours to show on the ribbon; restarting Excel may help.
  • Accounts: each employee signs in with their own Nexell account.

Details: Microsoft's integrated apps documentation.

Troubleshooting

If the add-in doesn't show up in Excel

  • “Upload My Add-in” is missing. Your organization may have turned off add-in uploads. Ask your IT admin to deploy the add-in centrally with the steps above.
  • No add-ins open on Windows. Under File › Options › Trust Center › Trust Center Settings › Add-ins, clear Disable all Application Add-ins and restart Excel.
  • No Nexell button. Restart Excel; on Windows, select Refresh on the My Add-ins tab. On the web, upload the file again after clearing the cache.
  • Updates are automatic. The panel loads from the Nexell server each time. The manifest rarely changes; if it does, upload the new file the same way (or your admin does).

Removing it

How to remove the add-in from Excel

  • WindowsGo to Home › Add-ins › More Add-ins, open the My Add-ins tab, right-click Nexell and select Remove.
  • Excel for the webClearing the browser's cache removes it.
  • MacDelete the manifest from the wef folder and restart Excel; if the button stays, clear the Office cache.
  • Organization deploymentIn Integrated apps, the admin selects the add-in and chooses Remove on the Configuration tab.

Removing the add-in doesn't affect your Nexell account, plan or credits.

Privacy

The same rules in the add-in

Same rules as the web tool: your files are not stored on our server, and every change is applied only after your approval. See the Terms of Use and Privacy & Cookies.

FAQ

Excel add-in: common questions

When will the Excel add-in be available?

We're not giving a date yet. When it's ready, an Excel add-in section will appear in your Nexell account. Until then, use the web tool.

Which versions of Excel will it work in?

It's being built for Excel for the web and Microsoft 365 Excel on Windows and Mac; the upload steps for each are on this page.

What is a manifest file, and is it safe?

A small XML file that tells Excel the add-in's name, icon and the Nexell address the panel opens from. It isn't a program and installs nothing; the panel opens from the Nexell server over HTTPS.

Do I need admin permission to install it?

Usually not with a personal Microsoft account. If your organization blocks uploads, your IT admin can deploy it centrally.

Until the add-in arrives, use the web tool.

Paste your data or add a file, type what you need and download the Excel file.
